Pfizer's Dr. David K. Rosen to Keynote MEDi 2008 Medical Device Conference
Head of Development and Commercial Strategic Alliances to Address Convergence of
Diagnostics, Devices and Pharmaceuticals in Hartford
______________________________________________
May 12, 2008, Hartford,
Connecticut
MEDi 2008 (www.MEDi2008.com),
the leading conference and exhibition for the growing worldwide medical device
industry, announced today that Dr. David K. Rosen, from World Wide Business
Development at Pfizer Inc will deliver its Opening Keynote address.
Dr. Rosen will discuss "In-Licenses, Out-Licenses and Alliances in the
Healthcare Industry -- the Convergence of Diagnostics, Devices and
Pharmaceuticals" in his address at the Connecticut Convention Center during the
two-day conference (September 9-10) offering Research/Scientific, Clinical Applications,
Manufacturing and Commercialization tracks, and an exhibit floor with pavilions
showcasing new companies and international participants.
"Physicians, patients and payors are challenging pharmaceutical companies to
demonstrate that their medicines are both valuable and differentiable from older
medicines in the management of disease. This has created some tremendous
challenges but it has also opened the door to many opportunities for innovation
in healthcare," said Dr. Rosen. "Today, there are new ways to predict disease
risk or occurrence, the potential to predict adverse events and the potential to
predict response to therapy . . . all of which will drive a new wave of products
and technologies in years ahead.
"Decision makers and innovators come to MEDi 2008 to learn first-hand
which improvements in healthcare will drive this innovation," he said. "This
Keynote will discuss how new and better diagnostics and devices will contribute
to the development of medicines, how concurrent use of diagnostics, devices and
pharmaceuticals will create value in the delivery of heathcare and, what
innovations pharma is looking to create or acquire to meet these new healthcare
demands."
For the past five years at Pfizer, Dr. Rosen has lead a team of business
development professionals focused on the in-licensing and acquisition of
biomarkers, diagnostics and delivery systems that enable or complement the
Pfizer pharmaceutical portfolio across 11 therapeutic areas in development and
commercial sales. He is currently responsible for out-licensing and for
divesture of Pfizer assets in Nagoya, Japan.
Dr. Rosen is a 1980 graduate of the University of Wisconsin and a 1984 graduate
of Iowa State University, College of Veterinary Medicine. After a decade in his
own veterinary practice, he joined the pharmaceutical industry, first at
SmithKline Beecham and then Pfizer. In 1996, Dr. Rosen left Pfizer to join a
start-up bio-technology company, before returning to Pharmacia and UpJohn
Company in 1999. During his career in the biotechnology and the pharmaceutical
industry, he has worked in licensing and acquisition and has directed project
teams responsible for the development of diagnostics, pharmaceuticals and
vaccines.
Joseph Bronzino PhD, PE, president of the Biomedical Engineering Alliance &
Consortium (BEACON,
www.BeaconAlliance.org),
the producer of the MEDi 2008 conference and exhibition, said this event
"is very fortunate to have Dr. Rosen as a keynoter.
"Dr. Rosen is a scientific and commercial leader and innovator with global
experience," said Dr. Bronzino. "We look forward to hearing the fresh
perspective and valuable insights he will bring to the audience at our opening
session."
